Commando Krav Maga, or CKM, is an effective system of self defense designed to quickly debilitate an attacker. Though assumptions are normally unsafe to make, in CKM, we do make three assumptions that are designed to benefit you and your safety.
1. Simplicity is genius.
We hold this as our unofficial motto for a reason. Under stress, you quickly lose your ability to sort through a list of techniques and decide which one applies in the current situation. As your body's survival mechanisms kick in, you also lose your ability to control fine motor skills. For these reasons, CKM seeks to simplify techniques while retaining the ability to quickly control or debilitate an attacker. For instance, once you learn the defense against a choke from the front, it is simple to apply the same technique to a choke from the side or from the rear. To account for the loss of fine motor skills while still maintaining effective techniques, CKM seeks to dibilitate an attacker within two or less gross motor movements. This allows your body less to coordinate while under stress, thereby increasing your chances of a successful defense.
2. Your attacker will be bigger and stronger than you.
By always assuming your attacker is bigger and stronger than you are, we do not waste time in CKM with small movement techniques. All of our techniques are meant to bring the most leverage, power, and speed to the table in the event you must use them to defend yourself. Does that mean you must be fast, strong, and powerful to use our techniques? Absolutely not. We will show you how to maximize your own abilities to effectively stop an attacker. Because of this, our system is easily used by women against male attackers who are typically larger than their victim.
3. Any attack on you will be dynamic, meaning it will change as it progresses.
No attack comes and stops. A thug does not thrust a knife and then stand there while you employ a myriad of techniques. What a thug DOES is thrust the knife and then, if he misses, continue the attack by trying to slash, punch, etc. So, what does this mean for students of CKM?
We always like to ask "What if?" What if the attacker does A and then B. What if I (the victim) try A and miss? By always asking this question, we teach you to improvise. We will not lock you into a static scenario by saying "When your attacker does THIS, you do THIS." What we will teach you is "If someone attacks, here is a technique to defeat the attack. BUT, if you miss, let's see what you still have available..."
Likewise, we do not wait years to teach you to defend against weapons. Why? Because tomorrow someone could punch at you, decide they bit off more than they could chew, and decide to pull their knife. You will be introduced to gun and knife defense within the first two to three months of training.
We encourage all of our students to ask questions, and lots of them. It is your class, we want you to get as much as possible from it.
If you think CKM is for you, contact us or come by our facility to sign up for a free trial. Anyone can observe as many classes as they want. Keep in mind, though, that by participating, you get a true feeling for what our system offers. Therefore, everyone is able to participate in TWO FREE trial classes.
