We're kicking off our 2009 Women's Defense courses on January 10, 2009 with our Common Sense Defense course, which replaced the Basic Women's Self Defense Course. The Common Sense Defense course is a prerequisite for our advanced women's courses. The first block of advanced instruction will begin early February. Check back for specific dates. Who are we?
Located in Asheville, NC, we are a team of professional reality-based self defense/martial arts instructors who strive to present new and innovative programs in self defense to our local (Asheville) and regional (WNC) community. We hope to pass on the lessons we have learned, and are still learning, from our life experiences, martial arts and self defense training to help others improve their abilities to protect themselves and their loved ones.
Our Mission:
Our mission is simple: Provide a no-nonsense approach to self defense training for members of the Asheville and greater WNC community.
We will strive to offer the most advanced, up to date training available in a format that is safe, educational, and most importantly, realistic. Our programs will be based on feedback from the community and law enforcement in order to give you the information you NEED to be able to keep yourself and your loved ones safe.
About Our Logo:
Our logo represents the tenets of our school.
The purpose of our school is to instruct others how to defend themselves when necessary. In representation of that purpose, the shield itself stands for defense, while the placement of the sword behind the shield represents defense first, yet maintaining the ability to strike back when the need arises. The placement of the sword point down denotes our peaceful intent.
The coloring of the shield further represents the idea of peaceful intent. While red signifies violence, gold is symbolic of personal power and personal control. At our school, and in Commando Krav Maga, we seek to temper our ego in order to prevent that ego from drawing us into a violent confrontation. The dominance of the gold surrounding the red stripe represents the use of violence being tempered by the control we seek to gain over our ego.
The three stars on the shield represent the three dimensions of the philosophy of Commando Krav Maga, and the principles that coincide with them. These three dimensions and principles are:
Ethical, with the primary principle being "No first use of force."
Pragmatic, with the second principle being "While negotiating for peace, prepare for war."
Dynamic, with the third principle being "In the street there are no rules. Train real."
