Women's Self Defense/Rape Prevention
Common Sense Defense Advanced Women's Defense Series
WNC Center for Self Defense is proud to offer superb women's self defense programs. The programs are based on concepts from the Association for Women's Self Defense Advancement (AWSDA) and Commando Krav Maga (CKM) and cover physical, emotional, legal, psychological, and post-attack aspects of violent encounters.
CKM itself is superbly effective for use by women against male attackers. Therefore, we do not claim to have developed special techniques only for women. The principles we teach are grounded in the same philosophies and concepts we teach in our group classes. However, women often face different attacks than men, such as sexual assault, rape, purse snatching, etc. Our women's classes teach you how to apply our concepts to these particular situations.

Our Common Sense Defense class typically takes place the first Saturday of each month. Classes are held at our Asheville. Anyone who tells you that you can learn a large assortment of techniques in a mere four hours is not being honest with you. Yes, you may learn them, but you will not retain them very long. Our four hour course teaches concepts and theories that can be applied in many situations. This style of teaching gives you a greater chance to apply what you have learned in class. We do teach techniques, but they are taught with the purpose of showing you how to apply the concepts and theories we discuss.
Our four hour and one half hour format is a well-balanced mix of lecture and hands on training. It is designed to give you the information and then teach you how to apply it in different situations. In addition, we teach the basics of legal, emotional, and psychological aspects of violent confrontations. The best part of our program is that we as instructors get to watch how women change- gain confidence in their abilities- in just a few short hours. If you want an introduction into what you can do as a woman to defend yourself, but still want to come away with usable information, this is the class for you.
The next class at our ASHEVILLE location will be Saturday, January 10, 2009.
The registration deadline for the Asheville class is: Wednesday, January 7, 2009. Click here to register.

Advanced Women's Defense Series
(Prerequisite: Basic Women's Defense)
Classes will start early 2009. Dates to be announced.
This series of classes is built specifically for women in order to provide a welcoming, comfortable learning environment. The advanced series builds on the principles learned in the basic women's defense course. Because of this, the basic class is a prerequisite for the advanced series. This series is an ongoing rotation of class blocks that last 8 weeks each. Classes are held once per week at each of our locations, and each class lasts for one hour.
The subjects we cover in the advanced series are:
* Adrenaline Stress Response- Learn how your body reacts when under stress, and better yet, ways to help control the natural reaction to freeze.
* Knife Defense- Knives are scary, and can be more dangerous than a gun- they never jam or run out of ammunition, and any thug can use one without any training. Learn how to win against a knife attack. |
 |
* Gun Defense- Guns are used for intimidation. Once you learn the strengths and weaknesses of guns, you will stand a better chance at overcoming your initial shock and fear and be able to effectively defend yourself if you choose to.
* Ground Survival- The worst place to be in an attack is on the ground. A heavier attacker on top of you is scary, in addition to the dangers of the ground- hitting your head, getting cut on trash, and simply not being able to get away. We will teach you the tools needed to get back on your feet quickly while doing as much damage to your attacker as possible.
* Multiple Attackers- Unfortunately, their is no longer honor in combat. The bad guys will do what it takes to win, even outnumbering you. Learn concepts and theories that help to negate the advantage that multiple attackers want to have.
* Full Contact Final- This is your chance. You have spent many hours learning concepts and techniques. Now you get the chance to use them to beat the **** out of your instructor! This day puts all of your learning to use against an instructor who is fully padded.
Next class dates to be announced soon.
